Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Where is One in Christ Church located? One in Christ Church is located at 1502 Parkview, Rockford, IL, 61107-1821. Sunday worship is at 9:30 a.m., followed by an Education Hour.
  2. What denomination is One in Christ? One in Christ is an inter–denominational church rooted deeply in the Lutheran heritage, but is free from the restraints of an institutional body.
  3. What are the core beliefs of One in Christ? One in Christ trusts in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, acknowledges him to be Lord of all and head of the Church and through him believes in One God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be, by the Holy Spirit, the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ and to be God’s word to us. We believe that we are saved through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and we are recipients of this salvation through grace alone.
  4. What is the mission of One in Christ? Serving as one in Christ and living in the abundant joy and peace of God’s love, we will love and respect one another and extend that love to our neighbors and community.
  5. What is the vision of One in Christ? To build and sustain a community of faith based on the love God has shown us through Jesus Christ, our Savior. We will treat others with respect, love and dignity, and uphold our behavioral covenant. We will grow in faithful discipleship through worship, study and prayer. We will serve each other and the community as one body united in the grace of Christ.
  6. What is a behavioral covenant? The behavioral covenant for One in Christ defines the way members of this congregation treat each other. It is based on the simple words of the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you) and Matthew 18: 15-20. In agreeing to the covenant members promise to treat their church family with love and respect and to work for what is best for the congregation as a whole. Gossip and rumor are not tolerated.
  7. Do you have a Sunday School? Yes, Sunday School is offered for children ages 2 – 12 immediately following the Sunday worship service. Adult Education is taught by Pastor Joe Marek and is also offered following the worship service.
  8. What about Confirmation Classes? Confirmation Classes are held during the academic school year. Please contact Pastor Joe for detailed information.
  9. What do you offer for teenagers? Plans are underway for a vital youth ministry. We look forward to developing a program focused on fellowship, outreach, and service to others.
  10. What about Holy Communion, baptisms, weddings and funerals? Holy Communion is celebrated each Sunday. Baptisms are celebrated in the community of faith during Sunday worship services. Pastor Joe officiates at weddings and funerals and can be contacted for further information.
  11. How does One in Christ reach out to the community? One in Christ takes mission opportunity very seriously. In 2005, 20% of the annual budget will support a variety of local and global charities and non-profits. In addition, there are monthly opportunities to get involved with community agencies either through hands-on service projects or in-kind donations.
